What Does a Strike Look Like?

  • You do not show up to work. Period.
    • No email
    • No meetings with students
    • No teaching students
    • No distance learning
    • No counselling
  • You are not paid during a strike. Period.
  • We would need to organize protest activities and media campaigns to put pressure on the board of trustees to agree to our contract demands. This continues until a settlement is reached.
  • If you call in sick you are not on strike.
  • You do not earn California State Teachers’ Retirement Service credit while on strike.
  • The Union strike fund can only offer partial compensation for lost wages to qualifying faculty.  Criteria are currently under development by the strike fund committee.
  • Strikes are more likely to be successful when there is 100 percent participation.
