Tentative Agreement Summary


The AFT Local 1828 Negotiations Team and the Ventura County Community College District have reached a tentative agreement for a successor Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Brief Highlights Include:

Salary

  • Salary Increases of 8% retroactive to July 1, 2022.
  • Salary Increase of 4% starting July 1, 2023
  • One-time off-schedule payment of 2%

Health Benefits

  • Maintains current contract faculty health and medical benefits without requiring a premium contribution by the faculty
  • Increased District contributions toward providing access to the CalPERS plan options for non-contract faculty

Department Chairs

  • Increased release time for Dept. Chairs

Class Size

  • Limits maximum class size for writing intensive courses other than English

Distance Education (D.E)

  • Enhanced language and clarification on the policies and practices for distance education
  • Addressed D.E. faculty workload changes with policies and practices
  • Protections for faculty intellectual rights in D.E. content

Working Conditions

  • Lab pay increase
  • Increase to PT office hours
  • Non-classroom faculty: new provision that may allow management to assign remote work based on District policies
  • Non-classroom faculty: management shall approve up to 5 hours per week of campus service hours which includes Professional Development

Existing CBA Protections

  • Additionally, the AFT Negotiations Team successfully preserved many existing protections for the faculty in the new tentative CBA.

AFT will be holding an information session via Zoom on January 5th at 4pm for faculty to learn more about this agreement and to review the improvements to the contract. There are many details to these improvements that need explanation. Faculty must attend this ZOOM meeting if interested in the specifics.

Contract ratification will be done by electronic ballots and is restricted to faculty who are members in good standing

It is important faculty understand the specifics and are well informed before they vote.  Faculty will receive ballots via email beginning January 16th and closing on January 23rd. Faculty will be informed on the outcome of the election by January 25th. I hope to see you at the upcoming informational meeting on January 5th via Zoom . Please check the union website regularly for updates especially during this process.
