RE: Letter of Interest for Position of Vice President for Adjuncts at Ventura College
To whom it may concern:
I have been employed at Ventura College and the District Office for over 34 years, 19 years of which as an adjunct professor in Business Information Systems and the Geosciences Department at VC.
I earned an M.A. in Geography from CSU Northridge in 2007, whereupon I was hired to teach Physical Geography lecture and lab that summer. I really enjoy what I do and can’t think of any other job I would want.
As a classified employee (1985-2001), I was involved in the Classified Senate on campus and was a founding member of the Statewide Classified Senate. Since becoming an adjunct professor, I have been more involved in providing students opportunities to learn “out in the field” so to speak. I have participated in a couple of protests and have spoken to the Board of Trustees about the issues re: the current contract.
I would be humbled to represent adjunct faculty at Ventura College. I would do my best to increase the membership of adjuncts in AFT and represent their voice at AFT meetings and at VCCCD Board meetings.
Thank you for your time.
Pattie Ridenour, M.A.
Adjunct Professor, Geography
