AFT Local 1828 Local Leadership
The AFT Local 1828 is a 501 C(5) not-for-profit organization governed by a constitution and bylaws and managed by an executive council comprised of active members in good standing elected by the membership at large. Elections are held in even numbered years and all elected officials serve for a two-year term. In addition to a President, Secretary and Treasurer, the elected officials for the AFT Local 1828 are the C.O.P.E. Chair and Chief Negotiator, as well as two campus vice-presidents (one full-time faculty member and one part-time faculty member) from each campus.
The AFT Local 1828 also has several appointed members of the Executive Council, including a Grievance Chairperson, Assistant Grievance Chairperson, and a Budget Analyst. These voting members are appointed by majority vote of the sitting Executive Council. All active members in good standing are eligible for consideration for these appointed positions.
In addition to the elected members of the Executive Council, the AFT Local 1828 has the authority to hire full and part-time staff to manage the day-to-day operations, carry out the mission of the union, help ensure that the needs of the members are being met. Currently, the AFT Local 1828 has an Executive Director, Finance Director and Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper on the staff.
