There was an emergency Board of Trustees Meeting last night at the District Administrative Center. This meeting had a closed sessions from 6-7 pm and an open session from 7-9 pm. In the abbreviated agenda the closed session item was listed as "Public Employment" President, Ventura College. At the start of the open session, several students spoke in support for the approval to increase the Student Health Fees for Fall 2019. These fees are scheduled to increase by one dollar for the Fall. After public comment, the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Diane McKay, announced that there was nothing to report from closed session. This would indicate that no vote was secured on a selection for the President's position at VC at this time.
The meeting then transitioned into a study session on the Health Centers at all three colleges. The F/T Health Coordinators, Mary Jones, Deanna McFadden and Sharon Manakas all presented to the Board the challenges they faced at their respective colleges. At issue was the increased demands placed on Health Services which included increased mental health counseling for students. The Health Coordinators were unanimous in recommending that the small increase in student health fees would be helpful as they worked to ensure quality Health Services. After discussing various funding scenarios in lieu of passing on the one dollar increase to students, the Board voted 5-0 to allow the increases to move forward. Comments are closed.
