![]() Dear Colleagues, I hope you all have enjoyed this spring break week. Last week-end was the 100th Anniversary Convention of the California Federation of Teachers. This is our state affiliate of the AFT. I was in attendance along with other VCCCD union faculty who asked to be delegates. I will be providing information gained at this event in our April 15th Newsletter. Next Friday, April 5, we have a scheduled workshop on retirement at your local AFT 1828, 816 Camarillo Springs Rd. We have reserved the Orchid Room for this training. However, to-date we have not received enough RSVPs to justify holding this workshop. At the convention, I talked with the CalSTRS representative, Arjuna Singh, who is scheduled to present at our event (along with Coby Crosby of AXA Advisors who will discuss supplemental retirement plans). I understand that the District has a workshop scheduled on April 8 at the District Administrative Center for faculty 3-5 years out from retirement. I discussed this with Arjuna and he said he will also be at that District workshop, but our AFT workshop would cover long range planning and discuss a range of issues that would not be covered on April 8. Additionally, the District workshop will not have a presentation on 403 (b) plans.
In the past 2 years, our April retirement workshops have been well attended. Please RSVP to Julieanne Flores. The training begins at 10:30 on April 5 and we plan to have a BBQ lunch. I will send out additional email next Wednesday to announce if we have enough RSVPs to move forward with this seminar. In Solidarity, Doug Thiel President, AFT 1828 Comments are closed.
